As a REALTOR®, you wear many hats. You’re a trusted advisor and confidant, a marketing expert, pricing guru, but most importantly, you’re a calming figure as your clients embark on the journey to homeownership. Good or bad, your role involves tempering expectations, staying positive and being honest with your clients.
Like you, CREA’s Board of Directors believes in transparency and accountability and for these reasons, we’re happy to announce the launch of our new Ask Me Anything video series.
In Episode 4, CREA’s Chair Costa Poulopoulos, Chair-Elect Cliff Stevenson and Vice Chair Jill Oudil speak openly and honestly about some of the most popular questions we receive from you, our members.
From dealing with stress and anxiety in a 24-hour job, examining CREA’s role in helping accelerate housing supply, to looking at how and why your board should join the MLS® Home Price Index (HPI), your questions are answered.
Working in real estate can be a 24-hour job, what do you do to help with stress?
“You do need to unplug. You do need to carve out some time [to] fill up your cup, so you actually have that recharge so you can give that advice, the support and the motivation.” – Poulopoulos
I still haven’t opened my brokerage office completely, what have you done to protect your agents and clients?
“Back in March of last year we reacted really quickly—we were actually accused of overreacting at the beginning. We had one-way hallways, we had taping on the floor, mandatory masks, and, geez, I think we have every sanitization station ever manufactured inside our office right now. But we didn’t apologize for that. We were trying to keep everyone as safe as possible … We’ve taken every possible recommendation that we could get our hands on and we’ve implemented it.” – Stevenson
What is CREA doing to help accelerate housing capacity in Canada?
“CREA’s been doing a lot. We all know housing is going to be an integral part of the recovery of the Canadian economy and based on that, CREA staff have been in constant contact with government officials, elected officials. We’ve recommended policy solutions throughout 2020—we’ve focused on four of them—and that’s going to carry into 2021 … The whole team is focused on: how do we get more supply?” – Poulopoulos
What can I do to get my board to be a part of the MLS® HPI?
“Talk to your board, first of all. The more boards we have involved the better it is for everybody. We now cover 39 markets across Canada, which is 80% of activity in Canada which is exciting.” – Oudil
