So many REALTORS® from coast-to-coast are committed to volunteering their time and raising funds for the causes and charities close to their hearts. CREA is proud to celebrate the generosity of REALTORS® and highlight their inspiring stories with our national REALTORS Care® program. Here is one of those stories.
Phil Moore, John Patricelli, Alice Wu and Tom Everitt are passionate about inspiring at-risk youth to make positive choices in their lives. Since 2016, these four REALTORS® from the Vancouver area have been supporters of Camp Choice B.C., whose mission is to empower youth with a five-day camp experience in August. It gives kids who are going through challenging life situations a chance to get creative, play, meet new friends, have fun and just be a kid.
Last November, Moore, Patricelli, Wu and Everitt helped raise more than $32,000 through ticket sales and an auction at the Annual Camp Choice for Kids Benefit Gala. They also act as coaches at the camp.
“The exercises and lectures are designed around ropes courses that have been used in company training seminars, personal development classes, and leadership,” said REALTOR® and Camp Choice coach Phil Moore. “They get a chance to work on focus, trust, and commitment to go beyond what they believe they think they can do. It creates a lasting memory of success in their lives.”
In addition to raising money and attending the camp as coaches, Moore and Patricelli visit with the campers weekly at the East Vancouver Boys Club. Here they continue the discussion around healthy decision-making. “The coaching is tough, but it’s worth it to make it out each week to talk to the youth,” Moore said. “Connecting with young people is so important because it keeps them on the right path.”
