Help us help you! Answering the top 5 HelpDesk questions

Hard to track down? If your job was to lead a team that answers (on average) 2,500 inquiries per month, you would be, too!  So, we sat down with Ryan Doraty – CREA’s Member Support Manager– to hammer out the top 5 Member Support questions his team comes across each month.

checklist01_enWhat is DDF®?

From awareness of its existence, functionality and importance, this is the #1 subject our Member Support is asked about on a monthly basis.

_____

Pop Quiz – Without peaking ahead, what is the main function of the DDF®?
_____

The short answer? DDF® is a permissions-based system that enables brokers and agents to share their listings with other brokers and agents, send their listings to third party web sites using a console on REALTOR Link®, and receive ongoing feedback on the success of their internet marketing efforts. At the same time, it will help protect the REALTOR® and MLS® trademarks as signs of integrity and competence.

How do I set up DDF®?

Seems pretty obvious, right? Now that you know what DDF® is – how do you use it? From videos and webinars to technical documents and reference guides, we already provide everything you need to get started in our DDF® training portal on REALTOR Link®.

How do I change my headshot?

No, we’re not talking about your Facebook or Twitter profile. If you need to change your headshot, you first need to know whether your Board typically provides this service or if it’s something you do directly. You can see where this is going… if this is something your Board handles, you’ll have to contact them, otherwise you can send a 640×480 pixel photo to support@crea.ca and we can take care of the rest!

I want to know about WEBForms®

Okay, we know that wasn’t a question, but with WEBForms® questions accounting for approximately 25 per cent of Member Support volume, we’d be writing for days if we tried to answer them all. And, because answers to the same question can vary depending on the software you’re using, it’s especially important you know how to answer our Member Support checklist.

Pro Tip: Installing software updates? Remember, WEBForms® is supported by Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari.  A complete library of WEBForms®-related information can also be found on REALTOR Link®.

Why can’t I find my listing on REALTOR.ca or ICX.ca?

Did you know that the most accurate way to map a property – and the way all properties are mapped on REALTOR.ca and ICX.ca – is by providing the latitude and longitude coordinates of the property and not the address? For each listing, REALTORS® should provide the latitude and longitude of the property so your Board’s MLS® System can then send the information to us. Make a point of checking to see what your listing looks like on REALTOR.ca. If it appears wrong – for example, off the coast of Africa – contact your Board, as corrections will need to come from them.

And that’s it! But, you don’t think we’d throw all this at you and not provide a cheat sheet?
Remember:

  • Have a question? Start with your Board or Association.
  • Still have a question? Check out our resources on REALTOR Link®.
  • STILL have a question?? Remember our Member Support Checklist!

Jonathan Baker, our former Speech Writer, contributed to the development of speeches, advertisements, and communications to our membership. Our staff knew him as the go-to guy at 200 Catherine for some comic relief. Prior to joining CREA, Jon worked in the radio industry in Ottawa. If you meet Jon, be sure to ask him to tell you about his encounters with many famous musicians while volunteering at a local music festival for more than 10 years.
