As 2024 comes to a close, I can’t help but be proud of all we’ve achieved.
When I became Chair, I knew this year would be one of change and innovation. Our diverse and talented Board of Directors participated in nearly 150 speaking engagements from coast-to-coast-to-coast on a broad range of topics, with a special focus on ensuring boards, associations and REALTOR® members were included in the consultation on the (then) proposed transition of REALTOR.ca into a separate, taxable, wholly owned subsidiary of CREA.
On October 23, 2024, during CREA’s Special General Meeting (SGM), the REALTOR® community voted in favour of the proposed plan, better enabling REALTOR.ca to innovate and continue compete in an ever-changing real estate landscape.
Looking outside our industry and to Canada’s ongoing housing crisis, our advocacy work, with support from Political Action Committee (PAC) representatives across the country, has continued to build and strengthen bridges between the federal government and REALTORS®, bringing evidence-based recommendations to the government as the housing experts we are. REALTORS® should be proud that REALTOR® recommendations have helped shape policy to help build a stronger housing continuum.
Our REALTOR® members help people with one of the most challenging and important transactions of their lives. They’re living CREA’s new social purpose statement, knowing that home fosters dignity and belonging. Truly, opening doors to thriving futures for all, beginning with home. I believe in the value of our members and our industry.
Thank you to my CREA Board of Director colleagues and all those who have come before me. Our progress is a reflection of decade after decade of talented and dedicated members of our community stepping up.
In the coming year, I’m excited to follow through on the incredible momentum we’ve built in 2024 and continuing to connect with REALTORS® across the country.
Wishing everyone in every community a joyous holiday season, and a Happy New Year!
