The Weekly Blend is your “weekly” source covering real estate news that you just may have missed. Our hard-at-work Weekly Blend crew scours the web looking for obscure, bizarre, interesting and informative real estate (or real estate related) stories. If you have one you’d like to share please feel free to share it in our comments section or tweet about it using the hashtag #WeeklyBlend. So brew yourself a fresh cup of coffee and enjoy these stories. Maybe even share them with friends or colleagues. Happy reading!

Here are my weekly picks:

What’s better than a guard dog? A guard tiger, obviously. This woman thought she could party in an abandoned house but bumped into an absurd house sitter.

This house is going to receive attention like gangbusters. Before Al Capone became a famous American gangster, he lived in this Chicago home that may have a secret tunnel inside.

Some may see it as a house with an extreme open concept floorplan, but others will see it for what it actually is: a burned-out house. Still, this Metro Vancouver home is on the market for $1 million.

Is it a house or a spaceship? To be fair, it’s a completely normal-looking $4.5-million Los Angeles mansion, but the current owner is Elon Musk, so who knows what secrets this property has.

Is it a house or the birthplace of Amazon? Well, actually, it’s both. The home where Amazon founder Jeff Bezos began the e-commerce giant in a garage is on the market for $1.5 million.

This winter has been a doozy for Canadians and their homes. This angular wooden cabin has been specifically designed to take a beating from Mother Nature.

Budget-friendly home buyers sometimes give tiny homes a chance, but this New Hampshire abode has an astronomically high cost for its size. The 320-square-foot home is on the market for $2 million.

You’re clear for landing at this defunct air traffic control tower. This Scottish property once served as home base for pilots landing their planes during the Second World War, but now serves as a modern militaristic getaway.

This underground bomb shelter in Las Vegas features 500 feet of floor-to-ceiling murals of city and mountain views with lighting that simulates day, dusk and dawn. Not to mention a pool, spa and trees. All of a sudden, a doomsday scenario doesn’t sound so bad.

Why do you need blinds on every window of your home if your neighbour is a Pokémon? Because he’ll Pikachu! Speaking of the lovable electrically charged mouse-creature, this REALTOR® team from Baltimore got creative and used a giant Pikachu costume to show off one of their listings.
