Weekly Blend: July 29, 2016

The Weekly Blend is your ‘weekly’ source covering real estate news that you just may have missed. Our hard at work Weekly Blend crew scours the web, newsgroups and forums looking for obscure, bizarre, interesting and informative real estate (or real estate related) stories. If you have one you’d like to share please feel free to share it in our comments section or tweet about it using the hashtag #WeeklyBlend. So brew yourself a fresh cup of coffee and enjoy these stories…maybe even share them with friends or colleagues. Happy reading!

Here are my weekly picks:

Montreal: the land of beautiful architecture, charming Francophones and poutine. Well, add green house capital of Canada to that list.

Maybe home renovations should be added as a sport to this year’s 2016 Summer Games in Rio. Athletes are complaining about no hot water, faulty plumbing and exposed wiring.

Nothing like a funeral to get that tummy rumbling. New York has become the 47th state to allow funeral homes to serve light refreshments and non-alcoholic drinks.

Rumour has it; you can control the CN Tower’s colour display with your Pokémon Go prowess.

House prices in Silicon Valley are astronomical. So, lenders are offering to finance 100 percent of houses costing up to $2 million with almost no money up front – as long as you have the skills to make bank, of course.

The super batteries used to charge Tesla vehicles can also keep the lights on in homes during power outages, so you don’t have to miss the latest Big Brother episode.

Where does your province rank according to quality of life?

A homeless man was homeless no more after he decided to “move in” to a house for sale. He even went as far as changing the locks and used the address for his mail. (VIDEO)

Most of us couldn’t wait to get out of school and into the real world. But for those who want get back into the classroom, this 1893 landmarked schoolhouse has been redesigned into quite the charming home.

Sorry San Francisco, your hills have nothing on the world’s steepest street in New Zealand. The homes built on it make for neat backdrops for Instagram pictures, too.

These Australian homes are being ridiculed on Instagram for their ugliness. What, a cheese grater-type exterior isn’t trendy?

Okay, misspelling my name is one thing but don’t dare ruin the look of my Starbucks beverage by slapping an ugly, oversized label on the cup! How will Instagrammers cope with this madness?

You may have noticed a little Instagram trend toward the end there. That’s because we’re excited about the official launch of the CREA Instagram account! Make sure to follow us for cool industry-related posts. Our Instagram account is @CREA_ACI.
